An evening light study

I set up a tripod on a corner I had been walking past for years. I had always meant to do a long-exposure study on this corner. Last Tuesday I did.

The trick with long-exposure street work is not the exposure. It is the patience to wait for the right combination of moving things to land in front of you. The shot above is the sixth frame. The first five were waiting.

Long exposure is a craft of waiting interrupted by short bursts of opening the shutter.

I might go back this week. There is a particular kind of night I am still chasing on that corner, where the rain is fresh and the streetlights have just come on and the buses are running just often enough.
